Riley Rumsey is Resilient.

Being the mom to twins has a way of bringing that out of You.

Her sons, Fox and Embry were born in August of 2010 at Riley Children’s Hospital.

They came 6 weeks early.

The reason for an early delivery was that one of the boys wasn’t developing correctly. Embry Rumsey had Vacterl Syndrome which means having 3 or more malformations. Embry was born with heart defects (he had a hole and was missing a valve), one arm and malformations of the spine and esophagus.

The average person may look at Embry and see half a person. However, for every part that Embry may be missing he has made up for by inheriting his momma’s Resilience.

From Fox and Embry’s 1st birthday until the age of 4, Embry had a Tracheostomy tube. In his 13 years of life he has had 3 Open Heart Surgeries, a Tracheoesophageal Repair, Chronic Lung Disease, sleeps on a ventilator and has a specially certified caretaker with him at all times. In spite of everything Embry has found ways to keep up with his brother.

although Embry is a very Independent, Stubborn, and Resilient kid. He has found a huge loving support system with his grandparents, dad, step parents, and uncles. Recently Embry has had to lean a little more on his support system.

He loves playing video games and was good at manipulating the controls with his feet until March of 2023.

Early 2023 Embry had a major reconstructive spine surgery due to Kyphoscoliosis. It lead to 120 day stay in the hospital and paralyzation from mid stomach down. With the loss of lower limb function Embry has had to use a wheel chair and learn to manipulate his game controller with his chin. The addition of a wheel chair has made transportation more difficult.

Yet, Embry’s Resilience Still Shines Through.

He is one of the Happiest Kids You’ll ever meet.

SOME OF THE MONEY RAISED AT TERROR ON THE TRAIL’S 2023 EVENT Went TO HELP ASSIST with the purchase of a vehicle that will accomodate Embry and his wheelchair.
