In Early 2021, Cirstyn and Jesse were like many first time Parents.

Excited. Hopeful. Nervous.

They had experienced similar feelings before. Both had started their Own businesses in 2017 and 2019. They had tied the knot in early 2020. Now they were anticipating the joy of starting the next chapter in their story.

A Baby Boy!

The 20 week Anatomy scan came back with a glowing report. Nothing out of the ordinary, Momma and Baby Boy were healthy and right on track in development.

Unknown to the soon to be parents and the doctors a blood clot had formed between the time of the scan and 36 weeks. The Diagnosis was Hydrocephalus (excess fluid on the brain). the doctors informed Cirstyn and Jesse their son would never be able to walk or talk and that they would need to operate immeadiately after delivery.

Copper Isaac was born at Riley Children’s Hospital in May 2021 and was sent directly to a specialist.

His first brain surgery was two days later.

Since then Cooper has had a shunt in place. A shunt is designed to remove excess fluid build up. There is a 40% to 50% malfunction and failure rate for shunts in children. Cooper, now Two Years old has had 10 total Brain surgeries and 4 have occured in the last few months.

Cooper and His family were enjoying time together one weekend in July 2023 when he suddenly came down with a fever.

No one knew that His shunt had failed.

Sepsis had already began to set in.

Cooper spent 12 days on a vent with no neurological function.

He spent 59 days in the hospital.

Due to the sepsis 6 fingertips were amputated.

Many people may not know but Hydrocphalus is not considered a disability. This means that insurance bills have piled up. It wasn’t until Cooper’s last stay in the hospital that he was Officially diagnosed with Cerebal Palsy however, disability insurance will not cover his latest stay.

Some of the money raised at Terror on the Trails 2023 Event went to help assist with the financial burden the Isaac family has endured.
