Living by faith can be strange at times.

The Starr Family knows all too well what it means to live by faith.

Caleb grew up in Central Africa where his Parents helped translate the Bible for a remote people group that had no access to a bible in their language. Little did he know that one day he would find himself completely smitten with a Kentucky girl at a college in Southern Indiana. Caleb and Ashley met at USI , Dated and then married in late 2016. Their adventure was just beginning.

Living by faith can be exciting at times.

In January 2020 Caleb and Ashley’s first child, Benaiah Starr was born. At 4 months old it was realized that Benaiah was having infantile spasms, which is a type of seizure that occurs in babies. Benaiah was having them constantly. Something was wrong.

Living by faith can be scary at times.

At 6 months old Benaiah was officially diagnosed with Lissencephaly, a rare gene-linked brain malformation where the brain is smooth. This causes Global Developmental Delay which means it takes longer to reach certain developmental milestones.

The Starr’s were told Benaiah would never walk or talk.

They were also told to prepare that he won’t live past 10 years old.

Living by faith can be confusing at times.

The name Benaiah means God Builds one of the most famous Benaiah’s in history was a strong warrior known for slaying a lion while in a pit.

Three and a Half Year old Benaiah Starr doesn’t look like a strong warrior and, yet strangely, God often Builds in ways we don’t understand.

Building faith can be challenging at times.

Benaiah still has daily seizurers. He has a Gastrostomy tube for water & medicine and he eats puréed food. Mentally he is between 12 to 15 months, nonverbal and in spite of being tall he is physically is at a 6 month level. There are few specialty Centers in the USA that work with Lissencephaly patients. The NAPA Center in Denver Colorado is world renowned and Each time Benaiah has visits, he Slays a lion. the Starr Family sees major developmental improvements.
